Spring Training here we come…2009 Cactus League

It’s official…Trevor Hoffman is a Milwaukee Brewer.  I would blog about Trevor but that’s already old news.  My new job assignment and shift transfer is taking a little longer to adjust to then originally planned (over a year spent on the night shift will do that to you).

I want to talk Spring Training.
Less than 40 days until pitchers and catchers report.

This will be a familiar and friendly sight…

It’s official.  Our entire family will be leaving the wintry cold behind and head for “The Grand Canyone State.”

I love this state…
arizona map.jpgI need to live here someday…okay, maybe just during the winter months.
Kinda sick of shoveling.  Feel my pain?

We will be there during the last week of Spring Training.
(After the players return from the World Baseball Classic)

I’ve gotta see my main man in action…

This picture is a delightful site…
maryvale berm left field pic.jpgThis is my territory-left field berm at Maryvale Sports Complex.
(I’ll share with you, but, don’t expect me to hold back-nothing personal)

Last year, I shagged baseballs on the outfield berm for the Brewers during one of their practices.

Total count-26 baseballs
14 caught on the fly.
26 thrown back onto the field (they made me do it 😦

That was a blast!

I’ve gotta run for now…the wife asked me to take her out to breakfast (shouldn’t it be the other way around?)  Oh well, can’t win em’ all.

My next post will be a Midwesterners guide to the Cactus League.  You know, a best of/worst of kinda thing.  Based solely on my experiences.

If anyone’s going to Spring Training in Arizona, give me a holler.
I know my guy D over @ The Rockpile Rant is headed down in February with the mobile blogging unit, anyone else?

    Hey, Happy …

Good to see you back blogging !!! … Yes, it is a beautiful sight: The Cactus League in Arizona; and, also, Palm trees in Florida during the Grapefruit League, in the winter !!! … Spring Training is getting closer, and we are preparing for our biggest snow storm of the year [this weekend] here in New York … It makes me wish that I was going to be in Tampa next month !!! … Well, maybe next year !!! … Have a safe trip, and enjoy your vacation in Arizona !!! … Jimmy [27NYY], “BY&L”

First of all, congrats on Trevor. You got your wish! Also, Arizona is a great state. I’ve been to Scottsdale and Sedona and some other spots, and they’re all gorgeous. I think I’ll be heading to the Grapefruit League to see the Yankees and have a book signing in Tampa. Your pix got me very excited that baseball is almost here! (Hope breakfast with your wife was fun.)

baseball-you can’t go wrong no matter where the venue!
Good luck with all the snow-it came through here in Wisconsin, yesterday.
you will make it to Spring Training one day! A baseball fan’s playground! Absolute heaven on earth.
Thanks. Old Town Scottsdale is gorgeous, right on! Along with the rest of “The Grand Canyon State.”

I hope the job assignment change is a promotion. (I gave you a shout out in my blog today in your official “title” as police officer). Have a wonderful time at Spring training! I would love to go but it is basketball/Science Olympiad season for our boys!

Enjoy & can’t wait to hear about it.

Your welcome and I’m sure of it!
In a lot of ways, it is.
I’m humbled and grateful for the mention. Thank you.
Wish the boys good luck for me.

I’ll be in Florida for Spring Training, only two and a half hours away. Take a few days off from school, run down to the players parking lot after the game (and then run into the middle of the street at every car that comes out). It’s all fun! How’d you get to shag balls? That’s so cool!

thanks for the visit to my blog.
Trust me-I’ll be easy to spot!
unfortunately, I won’t be down until the last week of camp. I’m still pondering that offer to come out to Coors, though!
Good luck on the grass berm. Play medium depth in left-center for right handed hitters.
    Cool-good luck!
I was able to shag baseballs the same way I get most things-I asked!!
