Goals for 2009

resolution (noun) 1.  Firm determination.  2.  An act of resolving to do something.  3.  A course of action determined or decided on.

(noun) 1.  The objective toward which an endeavor is directed.  2.  The finish line of a race.

I prefer to use goal as the choice word when looking ahead to what I would like to accomplish.
While I hardly plan on 2009 being my finish line, I do have a few choice endeavors for ’09.

Here are a few:

Be the best father and husband a wife and little girl (boy very soon, too!) could ask for… because there’s always room for improvement.

2.  Squeeze the aforementioned healthy baby boy come end of January…because good health is the greatest gift.

3.  Always be there for my family…because everyone needs protectors.

4.  Snag 150 baseballs/7 game home runs by the All Star Break.  300 baseballs/14 game home runs by season’s end…because this would set personal records.

5.  Catch a milestone game home run…easier said than done, but they’re fun!

6.  Make a new friend each day…because who couldn’t use more friends?

7.  Take lots of baseball road trips…I might visit your city!

8.  Limit bad decisions…we all make ’em.  I just want to keep them at bay.

9.  Re-model my wife’s bathroom…I use it too, but let’s face it-it’s her’s!

10.  Watch lots of MLB Network…speaking of-you’ll have to excuse me…

                                       What goals do you have?

Happy – I love your goals! Being a better parent is something we parents can all strive for. (Trust me – just wait until the teen years arrive! We have 2 boys!) Me – I’m working on the concept of spreading peace, in my little corner of the world, one act at a time. Hey – let me know if you’re ever going to be at Fenway Park!

  2. Kaybee

Haha, have fun with those goals if you’re going to be watching the MLB Network!! 🙂 If I had cable, I would be watching it wayyyyy too much!! But they are great goals, and I’m sure you’ll work on them. This year, I’m hoping to go to at least 3 games…

  3. Jane Heller

Great goals, Happy. I especially LOL-ed about remodeling your wife’s bathroom. Why is it wives need their “own” bathroom? Because we just do! There’s no pro baseball team here in Santa Barbara, of course, but you’re welcome to come and snag balls when the SB Foresters play (independent league champions). Here’s to lots of snagging in ’09.

How exciting about your son on the way! Do you know what you’re going to name him yet? If you ever visit the “Dolphin Stadium” aka where the Marlins play (yeah they share a football field…) let me know because that’s where I live! I love going up to Tampa for Red Sox games though :).
I’m definitely visualizing myself as a sports writer, and I’ll definitely stay focused!

    love it!
Fenway is at the top of my list.

    damn MLB network!

I just might have to take you up on that one!

some of the coolest stadiums/parks I’ve been to have been minor leagues, independent leagues, etc.
As far as the bathroom, I’m at peace…lol.

Dolphin Stadium! I want to sit up in those empty left field bleachers! Hawking heaven!

“All” Great Goals for 2009 !!! … And, you got your priorities in the right order, as #1, #2, and #3, [on your list] are def the most important !!! … All the best for a very Happy and Healthy New Year !!! … I’ll be looking for the highlights of your “milestone homerun catch” !!! … Jimmy [27NYY] … http://baseballtheyankeesandlife.mlblogs.com/

sounds good!! Just look for the guy driving way too fast with a Brewers license plate frame…that’s me!

it took me awhile, but I now know what’s truly important in life.
Happy New Year to you, too!
As far as the milestone catch-I can feel it!

Hope you make good on your goals.

Number 10 is also going to be a goal of mine, except they don’t have the MLB network in Canada. Staging a formal protest in front of my cable company might be a new goal. Or, become an American, something I’ve also considered.

  9. happyyoungster

    that’s pretty funny stuff.
Remember: power is in numbers! Get a couple six-packs of Pabst and some friends to join you-and make it a real protest party!
